About Anthony

Anthony Purcell is respected internationally as an expert on the Bible. He is a writer, teacher and preacher. Anthony holds a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies from Brewton-Parker College, a Master of Arts in Religion from Yale Divinity School and a Ph.D. in Religion from Emory University. A professor of religion and biblical studies, Anthony has a passion for teaching, mentoring and ministering to students. He has published numerous articles and essays on art, poetry and the Christian Faith. He is currently writing books on the power of narrative in shaping communal identity and on the interplay of textual and artistic imagery in the ancient world. Anthony is ordained in the Baptist church and is currently a United Methodist Local Pastor pursuing ordination in the UMC. As chaplain, Anthony brings his experience in teaching and ministry to bear by designing and helping implement First Revolution’s mentoring program and by putting the relational back into HR for our team.
